Abstract The rapid deployment of technology in developing nations has been seen as a key enabler for achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, the integration of technology must be carefully managed to ensure that fundamental human rights, such as privacy, data rights, and cybersecurity, are upheld. This paper explores the ethical implications of technology deployment in the context of SDGs, emphasizing the need for privacy, data rights, and cybersecurity to be embedded in the design and implementation of technological solutions. Through case studies and examples, we demonstrate how the misuse of technology can lead to human rights violations, while ethical design can empower communities and foster sustainable development. We conclude with recommendations for policymakers, technologists, and civil society to ensure that technology is used for good, aligning with the principles of the SDGs.
