Abstract | Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) has emerged as a powerful architectural paradigm for building scalable and resilient systems in today's complex digital landscape. This article explores the core principles, implementation considerations, and real-world applications of EDA, with a particular focus on retail and e-commerce environments. By reconceptualizing system interactions around the production, detection, and consumption of events, organizations can create loosely coupled systems that adapt more readily to changing requirements. The article examines how this architectural approach enables real-time operations, seamless data synchronization, and enhanced customer experiences through decoupled and resilient design. Through a comprehensive case study of a mid-sized retailer's transformation journey, the article demonstrates how EDA principles translate into tangible business advantages, from improved inventory accuracy to accelerated feature delivery velocity. Technical implementation considerations, including message broker selection, schema design, and consistency models, provide practical guidance for organizations embarking on their own event-driven transformation. |
