A Review Article on Recent Production & Application of Natural Dyes or Biocolours from Microorganisms

Author(s) L. Jayavani, Dr. Shahin Banu Z
Country India
Abstract This review article discusses the importance of biocolours as natural alternatives to synthetic dyes in industries like food, cosmetics, textiles, and pharmaceuticals. Synthetic dyes can cause health issues such as skin irritation, respiratory problems, and even cancer, along with environmental harm. Biocolours, derived from plants, fruits, and microorganisms, are safer and offer health benefits, including antioxidant and antimicrobial effects. The article explores specific microbial pigments produced by various organisms, highlighting their applications in biomedical fields, cosmetics, textiles, and food. It concludes by emphasizing the need for more research to improve the production and use of biocolours for public health and environmental sustainability.
